About Kyle Smith, PharmD, MBA

Clear facts. Practical guidance. A reasonable approach to your health.

I’m Kyle Smith, PharmD, MBA—a pharmacist, healthcare business owner, and lifelong believer that taking care of your health does not have to be complicated or extreme.

I created Health & Reason because people are surrounded by health information, but good information can still be surprisingly hard to find. One person says you need a dozen supplements. Another says supplements are worthless. Somewhere in the middle is the person who simply wants to know: What actually makes sense for me?

My background

My career began in community pharmacy, where I have spent years talking with people about medications, supplements, chronic health conditions, side effects, cost, and the everyday decisions that come with trying to stay healthy.

I hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and an MBA. My professional experience includes community pharmacy and pharmacy leadership, medication counseling and patient education, supplements and integrative health, pharmacogenomics, medication management, healthcare operations and business development, and neurofeedback and wellness services.

I also own Clear Mind Idaho, a brain health and wellness clinic in Idaho offering services including neurofeedback, photobiomodulation, cognitive assessments and other health services.

That combination of traditional pharmacy and integrative wellness has shaped the way I look at healthcare. I don’t believe everything needs a prescription. I also don’t believe “natural” automatically means better. I believe the right question is: What does the evidence say, how safe is it, and does it make sense for this person?

My approach to health

Health usually starts with the basics. Food matters. Movement matters. Sleep matters. Stress matters. Relationships matter. Your mindset and the way you approach your life matter.

Supplements can sometimes help fill gaps or provide additional support. Medication can be incredibly valuable when it is needed. And sometimes conventional medical treatment—including procedures and surgery—is absolutely the right answer. These approaches do not have to compete with one another.

My general philosophy is to start with the safest, most practical option that has a reasonable chance of helping, then escalate when the situation calls for it. Good healthcare is rarely about belonging to one camp. It is about choosing the right tool for the right situation.

Why Health & Reason exists

Over the years, I have had thousands of conversations with patients, family members, friends, and clients who were trying to make sense of health information. Many of the questions are surprisingly similar: Is this supplement worth taking? Which form should I buy? Can I take this with my medications? Is the expensive version really better? What does the research actually show?

Health & Reason is my attempt to answer those questions in a useful way. Not with hype, fear, or the promise of a miracle solution. Just clear explanations, practical recommendations, and enough context to help you make an informed decision.

Health & Reason considers evidence and individual needs when making health decisions

Supplements without the sales pitch

I like supplements. I also think a lot of supplements are unnecessary. Both things can be true. There are products with meaningful evidence behind them, products that may be useful in the right situation, and products that are mostly good marketing. Part of my job here is helping separate those categories.

When I recommend products through Health & Reason, I try to use the same standard I have used for years in pharmacy: Would I feel comfortable recommending this to someone in my own family? Quality matters. Evidence matters. Safety matters. Price matters too.

A pharmacist’s perspective

I understand medications, why they are prescribed, where they can help, and where they can cause problems. I also understand why many people are interested in nutrition, supplements, lifestyle changes, and other approaches before adding another prescription. I think there is room for both.

My goal is not to convince you to avoid medication or to convince you to take supplements. My goal is to help you understand your options.

A little more personally

I’m also a husband, a dad, and a small-business owner. That probably influences the way I think about healthcare more than any textbook ever could. Real life matters. People have budgets, jobs, and children. They forget doses, get tired, and don’t always cook the perfect meal or exercise five days a week.

A health plan that only works under perfect conditions isn’t a very useful health plan. I want Health & Reason to be a place where good science meets normal life: practical enough to use, balanced enough to trust, and clear enough that you leave understanding your options a little better than when you arrived.

A reasonable approach to your health.
